CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.—Repair work on a two-lane steel truss bridge over Campbell River, B.C., located on the east coast of Vancouver Island, is expected to begin this week.
British Columbia’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure awarded a $2.56-million contract for the Highway 19 crossing to Seismic 20000 Construction Ltd. of Aldergrove, B.C. The total estimated cost of the project is $2.9 million.
The contract includes installing new seismic bearings, replacing deck joints, recoating structural components, and repairing structural steel and concrete. Construction is anticipated to be complete in fall 2018.
“This work will make the bridge safer and more earthquake-resistant, so it will continue providing a reliable connection for the North Island,” B.C. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claire Trevena said.
